Our Mission

Southern California is home to one of the most vibrant and diverse music communities in the world. Every day, musicians perform in clubs, theaters, casinos, restaurants, breweries, festivals, churches, schools, community events, recording studios, and countless other venues throughout the region. Behind every performance are photographers, sound engineers, promoters, venue owners, music educators, instrument builders, volunteers, managers, recording professionals, fans, and many others whose contributions help shape our musical landscape.

Too often, many of these stories are never told. SoCal Music Scene Magazine exists to help change that. Our mission is to celebrate, preserve, and document the people, places, performances, and events that define Southern California’s music community.

Rather than positioning ourselves as the ultimate authority on the music scene, we strive to serve as its storyteller, capturing moments, highlighting achievements, sharing experiences, and preserving today’s stories as tomorrow’s history.

We believe there is room for everyone. Our goal is not to determine who is “best.” Our goal is to help document the remarkable community that exists because thousands of people share a common passion for music.

Although sponsors may review factual information relating to their own sponsored advertisements or sponsored articles before publication, independent editorial content always remains under the sole editorial control of SoCal Music Scene Magazine.

Diversity of Coverage

Southern California’s music community is extraordinarily diverse. It includes original artists and tribute bands. Professional touring musicians and weekend performers. Large festivals and neighborhood open mics. Major concert venues and small family-owned businesses. Music teachers, students, photographers, recording studios, promoters, instrument repair technicians, nonprofit organizations, volunteers, and countless others whose work contributes to the culture and success of the region’s music scene.

Editorial decisions are not based solely upon popularity, commercial success, social media following, advertising purchases, or industry status. Accuracy & Corrections

SoCal Music Scene Magazine is committed to publishing information that is accurate, fair, and responsibly presented. Despite careful research, editorial review, and fact-checking, errors may occasionally occur or information may change after publication. Concert schedules, artist lineups, venue information, ticket pricing, business hours, personnel, and other details are subject to change and may no longer be accurate after an article has been published.

When factual errors are brought to our attention, we will review the information and, when appropriate, make corrections as reasonably and promptly as practical.

Our correction practices generally follow these principles:

Minor typographical, grammatical, formatting, or stylistic corrections may be made without notice.

Contributor & Submission Standards

To help maintain consistency throughout the publication, contributors are encouraged to review the following standards before submitting materials.

Accuracy of Submitted Information

Contributors are responsible for providing information that is accurate to the best of their knowledge. Whenever practical, names, dates, venues, business information, website addresses, social media accounts, and other factual details should be verified before submission.

Editorial Review

All submitted material is subject to editorial review.

Our goal is always to improve clarity while preserving the contributor’s intended meaning and message.

Photographs

Whenever possible, contributors should submit the highest-quality images available. Contributors represent that they either own the submitted images or have the necessary rights or authorization to provide them for publication. Whenever practical, photographs should include photographer credit information.

Image Editing

Submitted photographs may undergo routine editorial adjustments including:

Cropping
Exposure correction
Color correction
Contrast adjustment
Sharpening
Noise reduction
Resizing
Minor background cleanup

These adjustments are intended to improve reproduction quality and will not intentionally alter the factual content or context of documentary photographs.

AI-Generated Images

Artificial intelligence has become an increasingly common creative tool. AI-generated artwork may be accepted when appropriate to the article and when its use complies with applicable laws and our editorial standards. When AI-generated images are knowingly submitted, contributors are encouraged to disclose that information. AI-generated artwork should not be represented as authentic documentary photography or actual event coverage.

Press Releases

Press releases are welcome and often serve as valuable sources of information. However, publication is not automatic. Editorial staff may summarize, reorganize, fact-check, rewrite, expand, shorten, or decline press releases at their editorial discretion.

Deadlines

Submission deadlines vary depending upon publication schedules, issue planning, and available editorial space. Whenever possible, event announcements should be submitted well in advance of the event date.

Editorial Releases

Certain submissions may require signed editorial releases, photography releases, model releases, property permissions, sponsorship agreements, advertising agreements, or other documentation before publication.

Compensation

Unless otherwise agreed in writing, submission of material does not imply or create an employment relationship, freelance contract, licensing agreement beyond the applicable submission or release agreement, or guarantee financial compensation.

Removal Requests

Because SoCal Music Scene Magazine serves as both a current publication and a historical archive, published editorial content is generally intended to remain part of the permanent record. For that reason, we do not routinely remove published articles, interviews, photographs, or other editorial content simply because circumstances have changed or a contributor later wishes the material to be removed.

However, we recognize that exceptional situations may arise. Requests for updates, corrections, or removal will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Examples may include:

Verified factual inaccuracies.
Copyright concerns.
Court orders or legal obligations.
Significant privacy or safety concerns.
Misidentification of individuals.

Images are an essential part of documenting the music community. Photographs, illustrations, graphics, logos, promotional artwork, and other visual materials published by SoCal Music Scene Magazine may originate from a variety of authorized sources, including:

Whenever practical, photographer and creator credit will be provided where appropriate or required by license or agreement.
